Ballet February 2017– Our Learning Intentions

Literacy. 

 We will share stories about ballet as a family, using lots of different books.  We will read Ballet Shoes by Noel Streatfield.  Iona will practice reading the Usborne beginners’ book “ballet” by Susan Meredith.


Music.

 We will listen to and discuss music from the famous ballets, focusing on Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty.


Exploration.

·         National Gallery Edinburgh to see Degas paintings.
·         Live screening of Swan Lake at Cineworld cinema.
·         Tour of Royal opera house, Covent Garden.
·         Tour of Thurrock production unit for the Royal ballet.
·         Sleeping Beauty at the Playhouse.


Language.

 We will look at French ballet terminology.


Art
We will read about and visit some of Degas’ ballerinas.
Experiment making art with pastels.
Talk about and explore making monotype prints.
Build a theater with a cardboard box.
